Team Chicago is pleased to announce the addition of Phil Nielsen to the coaching staff, effective May 1, 2019. Phil will join Team Chicago as a coach and in the role of Director of College Recruiting, where he will be responsible for assisting Team Chicago players in the college recruitment process. Phil will be the head coach of three Team Chicago Academy Elite girls teams for the 2019-20 season: 2001 Elite, 2002 Elite and 2003 Elite. Phil will also run an elite summer training program for all interested players in the Chicagoland area.
Phil is well-known to Team Chicago having spent 9.5 years with the club as Technical and Executive Director. During that time he won a US Youth Soccer National Championship, sent dozens of players to college programs and helped establish Team Chicago as a force locally, regionally and nationally.
Having most recently been the Academy Director at the Cincinnati Development Academy, Phil’s return to Team Chicago is a great addition to the staff. Technical Director Dave Lovercheck had this to say, “bringing Phil back to Team Chicago is a no-brainer; he is one of the top youth coaches in the country and his knowledge of both the Chicagoland youth soccer landscape, as well as the national landscape, is a phenomenal asset to Team Chicago. I could not be more pleased to welcome Phil ‘home’.”
Phil is currently completing his US Soccer Federation ‘A’ license, and holds a UEFA ‘A’ license as well as multiple United Soccer Coaches diploma’s. He is a longtime Regional ODP Head Coach and is an Assistant Coach with the US U23 Women’s National Team and a US Women’s Nationals Team Scout.
