Team Chicago to Host ACL Lecture tonight!

Posted by Phil Nielsen on May 04 2011 at 10:56AM PDT in 2010-11

At 5:30pm tonight (Wednesday, May 4th) Team Chicago Soccer Club and Accelerated Rehab will be hosting a lecture about ACL injuries and injury-prevention by local expert Dr. David Burt. The lecture will take place inside PlayUSA.

ACL injuries have grown exponentially over the past decade as more and more youths and adults are participating in athletics with much greater frequency and intensity. As an example, the U16 Team Chicago Academy-Botafogo team has had 3 players suffer ACL injuries in the past 10 months, and the 6-12 month rehab period is a significant break in a youth player’s development, as well as in his/her recruiting process. The cost to society, and the potential for additional problems in adulthood from ACL injuries suffered in adolescence, are also considerable.

Tonight’s presenter – Dr. David Burt – is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska where he was born and raised. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska medical school and completed his orthopaedic surgical training at the University of Texas in San Antonio. While there, he trained under both Dr. Jesse Delee, renowned sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon, and Dr. Charles Rockwood, a world pioneer in the development of Shoulder Replacement surgery. He also assisted in sports medicine care for the University of Texas football.

Dr. Burt completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at the world famous American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was involved with the sports medicine care for Auburn University, NFL Europe, Major League Soccer, Birmingham Arena football, and area high schools.

Dr. Burt established the Midwest Sports Medicine Institute to raise the bar for sports medicine care in our area, and he continues to care for athletes of all ages and levels of competition. He serves as official team physician for Plainfield North High School, and works with several local schools and club teams to provide fast and efficient recovery for injured athletes.
