Team Chicago Academy-Palmeiras defeated Chicago Fire Juniors Development Academy Pool 3-1 in the first round of the IYSA boys U16 State Cup. The impressive win by a team consisting of primarily U15 players was a huge boost for Coach Josh Robinson’s talented group.
Palmeiras went up 2-0 in the first half on goals by Jack Staton and Omar Miranda assisted by Chris Freeman 2 and Keath Levitt. Early in the 2nd half CFJ halved the lead, but with 15 minutes to go Oscar Aguirre forced an own-goal by a CFJ defender to secure the big win.
In the next round Palmeiras will face Eclipse East a 2-1 winner over FC United.
